In terms of the quality of scenic spots, Shaolin Temple scenic spot is constantly improving. In 2011, during a private visit by the National Committee for the assessment of the quality of tourist attractions, there were large loopholes in the tourist environment, tourist reception facilities, tourist order and management services of Shaolin Temple scenic spot, of which the service quality and environmental quality scores were low and were required to be rectified within a time limit. At present, although it has been improved to some extent, it has not yet met the service requirements of 5A level scenic spot, the tourist experience can not be well met, and the quality of scenic spot needs to be further improved.
In terms of operation and management, the Shaolin Temple scenic area is undergoing continuous reform. In 2011, Dengfeng municipal government and Hong Kong China Tourism Group signed the cooperation framework agreement and minutes of the executive meeting of Dengfeng municipal government. The two sides decided to invest 100 million yuan to establish “Hong Kong China Tourism (Dengfeng) Songshan Shaolin Cultural Tourism Co., Ltd.” in which the Hong Kong side accounted for 51% of the share capital to manage the Shaolin Temple scenic area. Now, the Shaolin Temple scenic spot is under the direct jurisdiction of Dengfeng municipal government and Hong Kong China Travel Agency. In addition, it is also under the multiple jurisdiction of the relevant national departments. It is easy to get confused in the operation and management. The scenic spot needs to explore the management mode suitable for development in the reform.
In terms of tourism products, Shaolin Temple scenic area is gradually developing. In terms of scenic area management, the current tourism products of Shaolin Temple scenic area are mostly traditional sightseeing tourism, lacking experience and participation tourism projects. Most tourists’ motivation is to witness the long history and culture of Shaolin Temple, hoping that they can bathe in the light of Buddha to purify their mind or to be curious about the Buddhist methods of Shaolin Temple and experience the life style of monks. In fact, the tourism products of Shaolin Temple scenic spot can not meet the needs of tourists, and the tourism product system needs to be improved.
In terms of image, Shaolin Temple is striving to maintain. The social image of Shaolin Temple scenic spot is also constantly challenged, and the negative news is endless, which makes the social image of Shaolin Temple scenic spot very negative, and will form a certain public opinion effect in the short term, but it is not conducive to the sustainable development of Shaolin Temple scenic spot in the long run. Shaolin Temple scenic area is trying to maintain a good image through various ways, but there is still a long way to go.
